White supremacy is upheld and perpetuated by silence. In order to dismantle it we must learn to see it, and speak of it. We need to breathe conversations about white supremacy into existence in our communities, we can not wait for someone else to begin them. We were inspired by our friends at Finback Brewery out of New York and joined their Breathing : Conversations initiative, a conversation about race, injustice and equality.
A collaboration with local industry leaders Brewing Change Collaborative, Breathing : Conversations is more than a beer. It is a commitment and a challenge for us to be vulnerable and honest with where we are at, and commit to the work of dismantling white supremacy in ourselves, in our industry, and in our community. Brewing Change Collaborative, is a local non-profit whose mission is to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion for people of color in the brewing industry through advocacy, outreach and education.
We are releasing Breathing : Conversations, a DDH New England IPA in the taproom on Saturday, February 6th, and we’ll also be hosting a live conversation about race, injustice, and equality with Brewing Change Collaborative on Friday, February 5th at 7 pm. The conversation will be live streamed on Facebook and available on our website in case you can’t make it. This conversation will be moderated by the amazing Garret McQueen and will include 4 panelists; Mahad Muhammad and Chole Moser of Brewing Change Collaborative, and Kale Anderson and Katie Muggli of Modist.
